History of VFW & Post 8762

Serving Veterans Since 1946

We are a part of the largest and congressionally chartered nonprofit Veterans Organization in the United States of America. We are a band of brothers that help each other through tough times, and the good ones. We are made up of Soldiers, Airman, Marines and Sailors. We focus on helping all Veterans regardless of when or where they served.

The VFW has been instrumental in establishing the Veterans Administration, creating a GI bill for the 20th century, the development of the national cemetery system and the fight for compensation for Vietnam vets exposed to Agent Orange and for veterans diagnosed with Gulf War Syndrome.

Since we were chartered in 1946, our members have provided veteran services. They've also donated to the West Sacramento and surrounding community over $750,000.00 to charitable groups; given awards to high school students for essays on democracy; awarded scholarships to nurses at Veterans Hospitals to further their training; contributed to youth soccer, swimming, baseball and basketball programs. Our post has also sponsored the Boys and Girls Scouts, Sea Scouts, and the local Jr. ROTC Program.
